Melanie Martinez: Mrs. Potato Head – VIDEO REVIEW

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! Around 40 minutes ago indie-pop star and The Voice USA alum Melanie Martinez surprised fans by releasing the music video for her track Mrs. Potato Head from her 2015 album Crybaby.

When I saw this surprise announcement I was immediately excited as this is one of my favourite tracks on the album. Upon first glance the song title may sound weird (as it is a direct reference to a popular children’s toy) but alike all of Martinez’s songs it is much deeper.

The track itself is a social comment on plastic surgery, body confidence, body image and the beauty business as a whole.

The video begins with Martinez, reprising her titular role Crybaby, watching a commercial for diet pills whilst eating a cookie. Clearly drawn in by the claims of the commercial Crybaby begins to inspect herself and proceeds to enter the bathroom to “fix” what isn’t broken.

As the video progresses the audience are welcomed into a new world, a world within the television and are introduced to a new character: Mrs. Potato Head.

The next segment of the video adds another theme to the song: female oppression, throughout the video Mrs. Potato Head is constantly controlled by her husband, she is shown what to wear and forced to undergo plastic surgery that she doesn’t want nor need.

Shortly after the surgery has ended we discover that Mr. Potato Head isn’t happy with the results, because of this his now botched up wife is forced to hideaway in the darkness watching as he attempts to sweet talk a younger, prettier girl.

Honestly I thought this video was incredibly powerful but also heartbreaking, mainly because I believe body confidence and issues with how we look have affected many, if not all of us. Melanie definitely served the track justice and I honestly cannot wait to see what she does next: whether she will make a video for the remaining tracks on the album or whether she decides to move on to the second album I’m sure it’ll be amazing.

Once again, thank you for visiting Xustralia!

“ADORED”: ThatPoppy Track Review

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! Sorry for the lack of content these past two-or so weeks I’ve just been very busy with university and life in general.

For today’s blog post I’ll be reviewing Adored the latest track from everyone’s favourite enigmatic pop star ThatPoppy (to see my review and analysis of Poppy as an artist click here).

The track which was released yesterday is Poppy’s first pop song since her EP Bubblebath which was released in early 2016. Poppy has recently released an “ambient album” entitled 3:36 (Music To Sleep To).

Poppy is known for giving her fans mini teasers regarding new projects which she hides in the description of her videos: for this project Poppy inserted the date of its release into her video descriptions but didn’t state what it was for, this isn’t a new thing for Poppy but it has proved very effective for hyping her fans.

The track itself sounds different to her previous music but I do get American Kid vibes, this is because the song takes the form of a pop ballad with a heavy electric instrumental.

The music video (if you could call it that?) released alongside the track is a simple two minute forty six second video of Poppy playing with her phone:

screen-shot-2016-11-18-at-10-10-43
“What is this ‘life’ I keep hearing about? Does anybody know what I’m talking about? Can anybody tell me what I should look out for? I wanna be adored, I want nothing more”

All in all this is my least favourite of all of the music Poppy has released, however I am excited to see how her sound develops even though I do love her Bubblebath EP (in particular the tracks LowlifeAltar and Money).

I’m going to give this track a 2 out of 5 star rating because although the song is good and the video is something only Poppy could execute.

I hope you enjoyed this blogpost because I really enjoy writing about artists such as Poppy mainly due to her unconventional methods and artistic approach. If you want to listen to the track click here.

Until next time…thank you for visiting Xustralia!

“ADORED”: ThatPoppy Track Review

Lady Gaga: JOANNE – REVIEW

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! FINALLY, the day has arrived: Lady Gaga has released her highly anticipated fifth studio album “JOANNE”.

The 14 track multi-genre album is, in my opinion, Gaga’s best yet. I love how from the moment the first song (Diamond Heart) begins it tells a story. It talks about Gaga’s sexual abuse whilst attempting to break out into the music scene whilst performing at intimate venues around downtown New York.

The rock vibe quickly changes to a MANiCURE country remix vibe in the form of A-YO Gaga quickly changes the tone and direction of the album with an immediate “here we go!”. This song was initially debuted in Nashville and rightfully so, it fits in perfectly with the country scene Nashville is famous for.

Still sticking with the country vibe we are given the title track of the album Joanne, this song cannot be faulted as it is just so personal to Gaga and her family. This song is particularly powerful because someone who knew nothing about the Germanotta’s and what they’ve been through could simply play this song and learn of their history.

John Wayne is one of my favourite tracks on the album and I’m surprised because I expected another country song but the Taylor Swift-esque spoken intro immediately let me know I was wrong. The beat of this song is the fresh new pop-rock vibe is the sound I didn’t know I needed and this is a track I had on repeat numerous times.

“It’s like, I just love a cowboy you know? I’m just like, I just, I know, it’s bad but I’m just like…can I just like, hang off the back of your horse and can you go a little FASTER?!”

-John Wayne

My next favourite from the album is in the impeccably perfect, self-love promoting Dancin’ In Circles. I am honestly lost for words with this song because I just love it so much: the relaxed beat accompanied with Gaga’s sexy lyrics and vocals mean that we are given nothing less than a pleasant listening experience.

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-10-46-26

We are now entering the single/promo single section of the album: Perfect Illusion and Million Reasons I’m so glad both of these tracks were selected as promotion for the album as they provide enough of a teaser that listeners are left wanting more. For an in depth review of Perfect Illusion click here.

Although I enjoy the Tarantino western motion picture vibe to this track, Sinner’s Prayer is my least favourite mainly because of its positioning on the track listing: it doesn’t maintain the powerful bar that the previous tracks set. That being said I do enjoy the personal second verse in which Gaga reintroduces the family element of JOANNE as an album by referencing her younger sister Natali.

“I can carry you but not your ghosts. Wish I had the faith, but I don’t, oh”

-Sinner’s Prayer

Next up is Come to Mama in which Gaga take a John Lennon approach and uses music to preach togetherness and unity. The song is genuinely feel good and the first track on the album to have a jazz-pop feel to it. The title of the song is also clever as Gaga is frequently known as “Mother Monster” by little monsters.

“The only prisons that exist are the ones we put each other in”

-Come to Mama

The first and only collaboration on the album comes in the form of Hey Girl featuring successful indie artist Florence Welch (Florence and The Machine), the track has a smooth instrumental and discusses the importance of female unity and feminism in the 21st century.

I was so excited about this track ever since Gaga announced the collaboration during her appearance on the Radio 1 breakfast show, safe to say the track delivered and I am impressed. Gaga and Florence worked well together and made a track that will be remembered for years to come.

I have been excited to hear the next track, Angel Down, ever since it was highly rumoured that Gaga wrote a song entitled “Chaos Angel”. The track is a stripped down pop-ballad discussing Gaga’s opinions on religion and the world today whilst spreading awareness to the tragic murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin.

Another one of my favourites comes in the form of Grigio Girls, the track is about Gaga and her friends getting together, getting drunk and letting the emotions come naturally. The inspiration for the track came from Gaga’s friend Sonja who is a type four cancer sufferer. No matter how many times I listen to the song I immediately get goosebumps it’s just that good, you can feel the emotion in Gaga’s voice and lyrics.

Gaga is so powerful in this song that I feel I am “turning on a bachelorette, dying Ashley’s hair red and having our sixth spice girl in this bitch!” (sorry I had to I just love this song so much).

“Seven years ago, I said you’d make it so-nja was Joanne’s friend, tough girls on the mend. So when I’m feeling small I toss that cork and call”

Grigio Girls

The final song I will be discussing is Just Another Day, this is because I deem this song the end credits of the album (the song afterwards is the demo of Angel Down). Gaga has once again returned to her roots, like she did in the opener of the album and the story of JOANNE has gone full circle in true downtown New York fashion.

As soon as Gaga starts singing I immediately think back to Stefani Germanotta’s debut EP Red and Blue. Gaga also makes reference to Mark Ronson (the producer whom worked with Gaga a lot during this album) and Brian Newman who then proceeds to have a trumpet solo giving the track a jazz flare reflecting Gaga’s recent shift in image.

Overall I loved this album more than I thought I would, as stated earlier I think it’s Gaga’s best album because it shows the many layers of Gaga’s talent, the album when played in its entirety tells a story of not only Gaga’s aunt Joanne but Gaga’s career from the beginning to now.

I will be giving this album a five star rating because I am obsessed with it and I cannot wait to see what Gaga does with it and I already cannot wait to see her again on her next tour!

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy JOANNE as much as I am, until next time…thank you for visiting Xustralia!

SHE’S BACK ! – PERFECT ILLUSION: REVIEW

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! Today is the day I’ve been waiting for for a very long time (three years to be exact!), for those unaware Lady Gaga made her return to pop music and released her lead single “Perfect Illusion” from her forthcoming, untitled fifth studio album.

The track was released at midnight eastern time (which was 4am in the UK) and instead of waiting up I opted to sleep and let the track be the first thing I listened to when I awoke.

Upon first listen I found myself slightly underwhelmed with the track, this was until it hit the two minute mark when the tone completely changes and Gaga graces us with vocals that serve as a teaser for her new sound for the new era.

The instrumental for the track is just superb and combined with Gaga’s vocals and lyrics provide the listener with a track that sounds like a combination of “I Want Your Love” for the Tom Ford campaign and a track from “Born This Way” (Gaga’s third studio album).

The track received mainly positive reviews from critics and fans alike, with many praising this switch in style.

I feel obliged to praise Gaga’s team for the promotion of the track thus far, until recently everything about Gaga’s new music was kept strictly under wraps with only a select few having any information.

Gaga shook twitter when she tweeted the announcement of the song using an enigmatic yet simplistic animation that read “LADY GAGA PERFECT ILLUSION NEW SINGLE SEPTEMBER PERFECT ILLUSION”.

All in all I adore this track and have had it on repeat all day! This new side of Gaga is one I am excited to see play out in the new era and I already cannot wait to her the vocals from “Perfect Illusion” live during her next tour!

I will be giving this track a 5 out of 5 star rating as I haven’t been able to stop listening to it and I am beyond excited to see what this era brings (I’m low-key hyped for the recently confirmed duet with Florence Welch!) and I am still buzzing that Gaga has returned to reclaim her crown and title as the Queen of Pop!

Until next time…thank you for visiting Xustralia!

Britney Spears: Glory – REVIEW

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! Britney Spears’ ninth studio album was released in the UK less than 40 minutes ago at the time of writing this post and I couldn’t wait to write my review!

I will be listening to the album for the first time in full whilst I’m writing so you’ll be receiving my most honest of opinions.

The album entitled “Glory” had previously leaked online, however I opted to wait until the 17 track album was released to the public.

The track list for the deluxe version is as follows:

  1. Invitation
  2. Make Me…(feat. G-Eazy)
  3. Private Show
  4. Man On The Moon
  5. Just Luv Me
  6. Clumsy
  7. Do You Wanna Come Over?
  8. Slumber Party
  9. Just Like Me
  10. Love Me Down
  11. Hard To Forget Ya
  12. What You Need
  13. Better
  14. Change Your Mind (No Seas Cortes)
  15. Liar
  16. If I’m dancing
  17. Coupure Électrique

The album opens with the soft melody pop ballad-esque “Invitation”. My first thought about this track is that it has a choir feel to it (accompanied with some audio enhancement which Britney is no stranger to). The name of the track and its position on the track list work perfect because it is simply inviting.

Before the album was released Britney and her team opted to release a lead single “Make Me…(feat. G-Eazy)” and three promotional singles “Private Show”, “Clumsy” and “Do You Wanna Come Over?”. To read my in depth review on the lead single please click the following link (here), I believe the choosing of the three promotional singles was perfect as each focused on sexual, innuendo based themes.

My two favourites have got to be “Make me…” and “Clumsy” though, this is because I didn’t really enjoy the rhythm, lyrics or vocals of “Private Show” or “Do You Wanna Come Over?” (I saw a tweet which definitely sums up “Private Show” as one of my followers commented on how it reminds him of the Animal Crossing soundtrack).

It has to be said that “Man On The Moon” reminds me a lot of “Alien” from Britney’s previous album and exaggerated “ooh’s” seem to be Britney’s thing for this era, I must add that I am quite disappointed with this track as it was the one I felt was teased highly during the run up to the album.

Upon its opening, “Just Luv Me” immediately gave me flashbacks to Beyoncé’s latest album “LEMONADE”. However I don’t believe this is a bad thing as the smooth beat and simplistic vocals and lyrics have definitely worked in Britney’s favour.

“Slumber Party” is the first track of the album which was given an explicit rating, if I had to describe this sound it would be old Britney with a reggae, RnB twist. This song returns to the sexual themes but if theres a song on the album that proves Britney still has it I think it’ll be this. If it’s released as a single in the future I can see this track being a definite hit on the radio and in the clubs.

The first acoustic song of the album arrives in the form of “Just Like Me”, this song reminds me of a Shakira song whilst the lyrics reminds me of Britney’s song “Perfume”. As much as I think this song is good I do think it’s more filler than anything and a chance to show that Britney can do something different. Will this song be a single? I highly doubt it.

“Love Me Down” cannot be faulted except for the chorus and the fact that it sounds a bit like “Can’t Remember To Forget You” by Shakira and Rihanna. Those things aside the song is catchy and I can see myself listening to it a few times (something I haven’t felt with many tracks on this album).

The old Britney feel returns in the track “Hard To Forget Ya”, two previous Britney songs immediately come to mind: the track sounds like a combination of “Work Bitch” and a slower version of “…Baby One More Time”.

The “LEMONADE” vibes return in “What You Need” as from the moment the song began I immediately thought of “Freedom”. However, the beat is good but the vocals and lyrics don’t compliment it so this instrumental could’ve been used better elsewhere.

“Better” is definitely placed perfectly on the track list as after “What You Need” I was beginning to lose faith in this album. This song has saved it, the beat is perfect (I am getting some real Major Lazer vibes), the vocals aren’t too overpowering and its just genuinely nice to listen to.

I know I’ve already mentioned it twice before but I can’t help but think that some of these tracks would’ve been better suited for Shakira. “Change Your Mind (No Seas Cortes)” is another song that would work better on a Shakira or even JLO album. However, Britney Spears speaking Spanish is surprisingly sexy.

I’ve been excited to hear this song since I began my play through of the album, “Liar”. This is mainly because of the controversy that has erupted due to it (come on, we all love a bit of drama right?!). “Liar” is Britney’s long awaited response to “Cry Me A River” by her ex Justin Timberlake. I was just about to finish the song but had to restart it because it’s honestly my current favourite, everything about it is just perfect.

I’m convinced Britney left the best songs at the start and end of the album, we’re now onto the second to last track “If I’m Dancing” and I have to say I love the beat. However, I’m not a fan of Britney’s attempt at a British accent, I also think this song would’ve benefited from a collaboration with an artist such as Nicki Minaj or Azealia Banks.

So now we’ve come to the final song of the album “Coupure Électrique” and from the minute the beat began and the first lyrics began I was hooked. I cannot fault this song, Britney has definitely left one of the best until last and I am glad. If by some miracle this song became a single (or for some reason a video was made for it) I’d want to video to be in the style of the toxic video only tackling the aftermath of toxic.

Final Comments:

Okay so I understand I have been quite critical towards the album but thats mainly because I have high expectations for an album as hyped as this. The tracks I loved were: “Coupure Électrique”, “Liar”, “Better” and “Slumber Party”.

Am I expecting this album to be considered one of Britney’s masterpieces? No. However it is an improvement from her last studio album so although I don’t think it’ll be as acclaimed as her previous work “Glory” will definitely not be as disliked as “Britney Jean”.

I will be giving this album a 2 out of 5 star rating as to put it simply, I expected more.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as I definitely enjoyed doing another album review as it’s been a while since my last.

Until next time…thank you for visiting Xustralia!

Britney Spears: Glory – REVIEW

Katy Perry V Britney Spears: Release Battle

Good morning everyone…..welcome to Xustralia! I woke up about an hour before writing this and discovered that Katy Perry AND Britney Spears had followed in the footsteps of Beyoncé and Rihanna by releasing new music by surprise!.

Katy released her new track for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio “RISE”, it is currently unknown whether or not the track will be included on Katy’s upcoming fourth untitled album.

Britney released her highly speculated/teased track “Make Me…” a collaboration with rap artist G-Eazy. The track serves as the lead single for Britney’s upcoming ninth studio album which alike Katy’s remains untitled.

I was kind of expecting Britney’s track to be released today after being so highly invested in the rumours that had generated on twitter the past couple of weeks, Katy’s new track however took me by surprise.

Little Boots: Afterhours EP (REVIEW)

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Xustralia! Saying “welcome back” is definitely not un understatement as I haven’t blogged since April, the reason being is that I was very busy with university work and didn’t have the motivation to blog. However, I’m now back with a new review and it’ll be the first of many more to come!

So without further ado, let’s begin: British indie-pop/alternative dance artist Little Boots (Victoria Christina Hesketh, 32) released her two track EP “Afterhours” on June 17, the EP is the follow-up to her 2015 album “Working Girl” (the album included tracks from her 2014 “Business Pleasure” EP).

little-boots-afterhours-ep

I fell in-love with Hesketh’s sound back in 2008 when she released her hugely popular single “Remedy” from the album “Hands”. The techno vibe of her music is enough to entice listeners in and the fun, dance feel is enough to make us stay until the end.

The “Afterhours” track list includes:

  1. Staring at the Sun
  2. Face to Face

My favourite of the two tracks has to be “Face to Face” as the dominant beat of the instrumental is balanced out by the catchy lyrics.

Both of these songs have the potential to be hits in the clubs and on the alternative radio.

Mainstream audiences may not appreciate the integrity and niche qualities of the tracks, Hesketh chose to deny the conventions of the music industry and has created an EP that caters to her genre, artistry and fans as opposed to aiming to please the mass market.

Overall I’m going to give this EP a 5 out of 5 star rating, this is because Hesketh has done what not a lot of artists have achieved this year and left me wanting more. This is definitely a must for fans of alternative/indie dance and pop music.

The EP is available for purchase on iTunes and can be streamed on Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. Have a listen and let me know your verdict as I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed my return to blogging as much as I did and until next time….thank you for visiting Xustralia!

Eliza and The Bear: Live Review

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! It’s been a while since my last post however I’ve been ill and I am now very much ready to get back at it!

On Friday April 15 I was able to go and see one of my new favourite bands live at the Academy 3 concert venue in Manchester. The 5 person all-male band from London performed to a sell-out show as part of their first headline tour in promotion of their debut self titled album.

eatb_album_aw

Doors opened at 7:30pm and the band were supported by new and upcoming bands Secret Company and Model Aeroplanes. Personally I found Model Aeroplanes’ performance the best out of the two due to their excellent use of bass and unconventional approach to strobe lighting.

The band themselves took the stage at around 9:30pm and performed a 10 song set.

Their stage presence could not be faulted as they continuously interacted with the crowd whether it be telling us to put our hands up, insisting we sing along during the performance of “Cruel” (this moment was particularly special as the entire crowd lit up the room via phone torchlight) or initiating an Ibiza themed dance over to determine which portion of the room had the funnest fans.

The band poked fun at mainstream artists ways of being summoned back on stage for encores by telling the crowd: “we’ll go out here (after the ending of “Cruel”) for about two minutes and you all think of something creative to shout in order to bring us back”. The band then returned to the stage to end the show with a two song encore consisting of “It Gets Cold” before closing with fan favourite “Friends”.

The show was certainly one of the best I’ve seen and if an alternative rock-pop sound is something you like then this is definitely a band worth checking out, personally I cannot wait to see what they do in the future and will definitely be seeing them live again.

Until next time…thank you for visiting Xustralia!

Eliza and The Bear: Live Review

EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Twintwo

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! Today I had the privilege of conducting my second interview via twitter DM. My first twitter interview was with L.A. based artist ‘Party Nails’ and can be found here, todays interview was with Yorkshire based rapper Robert Winterburn who goes by the stage name ‘Twintwo’

This isn’t the first post I’ve wrote about ‘Twintwo’ as he was the first subject of my “Artist Spotlight” series, the post for that can be found here.

So without further ado here is the interview:

KEY: X = Xustralia (me) and TT = Twintwo

DSC_4363

X: Thanks for agreeing to do this, how are you today?

TT: I’m good thank you, what about you?

X: Glad to hear! Yeah I’m great thanks. Now for those who don’t know, who is ‘Twintwo’?

TT: I’m a rapper from Yorkshire in the UK from a farming background.

X: You come from a farming background? Has that influenced your music in any way?

TT: I do I do, no it hasn’t really to be honest. I remember my mother told me I should rap about farming but I just don’t think it’s really my style.

X: Ah right okay, understandable. So, farming aside is there any one who you take influence from? Because, and correct me if I’m wrong, when I hear your music I hear a real distinct Eminem vibe.

TT: Yeah Eminem was one of the first rappers I listened to, I didn’t really know much about different musicians and stuff like that (un)till I was about 12/13 I think. Since then I’ve been influenced by Hopsin, Logic, Slaughterhouse, MGK (Machine Gun Kelly) and a bit of Calvin Harris.

X: As I’m not the biggest rap fan I was pleasantly surprised when I found your music and quickly became a fan. I did notice a clear shift in style from your “All Day Everyday” mixtape days to now. Was this intentional?

TT: Thank you, when I was recording “All Day Everyday” I was kind of dipping my feet into the water to see if i could actually rap this time because the first time I started I got laughed at when I brought my first song out so I kind of went underground for a bit to sort out my music.

TT(CONT): When I came out with “All Day Everyday” it was kind of a big middle finger to everyone saying: “look I know I was bad but listen to this”, so I was just focusing on rapping well. It wasn’t intentional to change my sound for the EP I’m working on now, but I think the thought of people knowing I can rap now has kind of freed the weight off my shoulders. Now  I don’t have to sound like your typical all day everyday, pun intended, rapper. I can be more free with what I do!

X: You mentioned that you were laughed at when you released your first rap track, luckily for us you gave it another go. What would you say to people who want to put something out there but are worried at the initial response from peers?

TT: I’d say just do what makes you happy if you enjoy what you’re doing but someone else doesn’t who cares? Someone else in the world will like what you’re doing and if even you think you’re bad but you still want to do it just keep practicing and put the hours in.

TT(CONT): When I released my first track and was laughed at I was probably down for about a week and then I got back into writing and then for Christmas I got a microphone and just stayed in my room for nights on end trying to figure out what I did wrong and when I did figure out what was up with my rapping I started writing/recording “All Day Everyday” released “Beggin” and then everyone had basically forgotten about the first track. It was a really good feeling, then I had to go back and figure out how to out do “Beggin”.

X: Since I first found your music one question has been on my mind: whats the meaning of your stage name?

TT: It was kind of odd when I came across my stage name haha! Well I’m a twin but it’s not the reason why its my name. I was going to the hospital to have a check up on my shoulder and I had a rap name before “Twintwo” which was “Winterburn” that was before “All Day Everyday” I was recording that at the time when I went to get my shoulder checked out. So I went to the desk for the check up and the clerk said “oh yes are you Robert….. Twin2 Winterburn” and my mum said “no it’s ‘Robert Pearson Winterburn'”. On the hospital records when I was born I guess they never got my middle name so they just called me “Twin2” so I thought it was pretty cool how I was named that for 20 years so I thought i’d stick with it and rename my rap name to “Twintwo”.

X: Could say it was almost like destiny!

TT: Aye!

X: I believe you’ve got your first live gig planned soon, congratulations on that by the way! How’re you feeling about it?

TT: I do, thank you! I’m very nervous but excited. I made a to do list at the start of this year and the live show stuff was written down to be planned at the end of the year, so I’ve jumped in head first but it’s all good! I’m glad i’m about to pass that goal!

X: I have no doubt you’ll kill it, best of luck!

TT: Thank you!

X: Your new EP “Mr Winterburn” comes out April 26th, what can we expect?

TT: You can basically expect a view of my own life how it has been for the past 6 to 9 months. Theres even a track on it taking the mick about where I hang about most of the time!

X: I look forward to it! So as that was my final question, is there anything you want to say to the readers?

TT: The only thing I have to say is get my EP when it comes out and keep a look out for me in the future, hopefully I’ll be sticking around for a while!

X: Thank you once again for your time today!

TT: Thank you Mike for the support, I appreciate it so much!

DSC_4337

So that concludes my interview with ‘Twintwo’ it was such a good interview and he is such a nice guy!

Don’t forget to get his EP “Mr Winterburn” on April 26th as I’m certain it’ll be top notch! As usual I’ll leave links to all of his social media pages down below.

Rihanna: Kiss It Better – Video *REVIEW*

Hello everyone…welcome to Xustralia! The hip-hop pop princess Rihanna has given us our next instalment in the ‘ANTI’ story as she has released the video for her new single “Kiss It Better”. I for one was over the moon that she chose to release this track as single as its definitely my favourite track on the album. Incase you haven’t seen it you can read my reviews on both the regular version (can be found here) and deluxe version (can be found here) of the album.

The video focused entirely on Rihanna and showed her in numerous seductive, sexy ways. The video itself was shot entirely in black and white and this complimented the sexy nature greatly.

Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 17.30.59

Rihanna has once again showed us the true meaning of ‘ANTI’: going against the usual conventions of the music industry in a bid to create art. This has been done since the release of the album as she followed in the footsteps of Beyoncé and released her album without warning and to the surprise of her fans.

I will be rating this video 2 out of 5 ‘ANTI’ crowns as although it was visually stunning, I did expect more of a story as the lyrics had the potential for Rihanna to create a truly unforgettable video.

Until next time…thank you for visiting Xustralia!
